About This Design

The Airship Pirate Union, Local 1886, was established after a group of independent sky captains discovered that piracy involved considerably more paperwork than advertised.

There were docking permits. Boiler inspections. Salvage disputes. Crew grievances. Questions about whether commandeering a royal cargo vessel counted as overtime.

It did.

The Union was formed to protect the rights of airship crews engaged in unauthorized trade, experimental navigation, and the occasional involuntary redistribution of imperial property.

Membership benefits included regulated plunder hours, compensated cloud delays, emergency parachute allowances, and one paid mutiny per calendar year.

The Guild of Anarchists provided technical support.

This was widely considered a mistake.

Guild engineers redesigned the standard pirate vessel with dual steam boilers, clockwork steering, reinforced propeller drives, and a gas envelope release system labeled only, “Use when circumstances become educational.”

The resulting airship was fast, heavily armed, and almost impossible to insure.

Union records describe the vessel as independent since its first flight. Government records describe it as stolen. The distinction remains under arbitration.

Local 1886 continues to represent mechanics, navigators, smugglers, boiler operators, riggers, and anyone whose employment contract includes the phrase “possible cannon fire.”

Dues are payable monthly.

Plunder is assessed separately.
